I used to be creative.

I used to ask a lot of questions.

Then, somewhere along the way, I stopped.

I learnt to quieten the questions; into what was expected. To believe that creativity belonged to certain people, but not me, and that my asking too many questions was a sign of weakness.

…but, creativity has a way of finding its way back home.

For me, it arrived on a wave of worship.

What began as a place to process, reflect and encounter God gradually became a doorway back into something I almost forgot about myself - my creativity.

Then came painting.

At first, it was simply creativity without depth. I created just because I could. I would paint something beautiful, yet meaningless. This reoccurring theme caused me to take a step back to seek the role of art within My calling. All I’ll say is, it was such a journey.

During my hiatus, I found the answer. I came back to painting and created the collection "Time To Shine”. Words I felt but struggled to say screamed from my canvas. Needless to say, my canvas created a space for me to pause and recognise something within myself.

That is: I am not only an artist, I am a creative. I have designed, drawn, written, taught, administered, researched and facilitated. I have even stepped into the world of cybersecurity, training and passing my professional certification amidst raising young children.

Those experiences have shaped the way I see creativity. That it is not meant to be confined to one label.

Even though parts of us can become buried beneath expectations and responsibilities, sometimes we need to give ourselves permission to re-discover those parts of ourselves again; the parts that allowed us to be grounded in our true identity.

My work is rooted in the belief that creativity can create connection with ourselves, with others and with God. And that is what we do at Edify Arts . We explore identity and restoration through expressive colour, symbolism and visual storytelling. Visual arts are not simply created to be seen.They are also created to be experienced. Perhaps, for a moment, to remind you that you too, like I am, are still evolving.

Using paintings, commissions, live art and creative experiences, I curate spaces where truth and colour meet.
